Learn to Weave Workshops
Spend a creative weekend learning the art of weaving with Manawatū-based weaver Natasha Christensen. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of working with a four-shaft table loom while creating your own beautiful handwoven shoulder wrap to take home.
You'll weave with New Zealand wool, hand-dyed by Natasha in her Slow Woven studio. Colour is at the heart of Natasha's weaving, and her hand-dyed yarns are inspired by the colours, textures and beauty of Aotearoa's native plant life. You'll have the pleasure of working with these distinctive colours and beautiful natural fibres as you bring your own woven piece to life.
Set in the peaceful, rural surroundings of The Herb Farm in Ashhurst, this two-day workshop is perfect for beginners, with no previous weaving experience necessary. You'll learn the skills and techniques involved in preparing a warp, dressing your loom and weaving your finished piece, gaining the knowledge and confidence to continue your weaving journey.
Workshops are kept small, with a maximum of eight participants, so you'll receive plenty of individual guidance along the way. All equipment and materials are provided, including a modern Ashford NZ four-shaft table loom to work on and printed notes to support your learning.
By the end of the weekend, you'll have gained a new skill, a deeper appreciation of the craft of weaving and a beautiful shoulder wrap you've woven yourself using Natasha's hand-dyed New Zealand wool.
The workshop runs from 9:30am to 4:00pm on both days.
Venue: The function room at The Herb Farm, 86 Grove Road, Ashhurst - just 15 minutes from Palmerston North.
